Trader Joe's Portrays Sense of Community With Graylyn Mural

When Winston-Salem introduced Trader Joe's last year many thought it was a step toward big city life - as most large cities in the nation have a TJ's. However, Frank Kirkland, general manger of the Winston-Salem Trader Joe's, had another idea. His idea? To create a grocery store in Winston-Salem that portrays a sense of community.
Mr. Kirkland approached Graylyn several months ago with hopes of painting a large mural of Graylyn on the walls of his store. His vision was to have murals of prominent and historic sites found within Winston-Salem, and what a vision it was!
This mural would be around 8ft wide by 3ft tall and display all the main features of the Graylyn Estate, including the stone and ironwork.
The mural was completed recently and is an amazing sight to see. Be sure to stop by and take a look for  yourself!
A special thanks to our friends at Trader Joe's for this wonderful opportunity.

Sims Patrick Studio Wins IIDA Award For Mews Redesign

The 9th annual International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Georgia Chapter Best of the Best Forum Design Awards took place February 27, 2014 at 200 Peachtree Street, in Atlanta, GA. Taking home an Award of Merit for Small Hospitality was Sims Patrick Studio.

Sims Patrick Studio redesigned the Mews at Graylyn International Conference Center in 2012. Once a private stable for the Bowman Gray family at the estate, the Mews has found much more purpose these days boasting 35 guest rooms, conference meeting space, a private dining area, and fitness facilities.

In the spirit of the Gray family's attention to finer things in life, the Mews renovation was a combination of "old world" charm and the modern amenities required by a conference center affiliated with a research university. All guest rooms were updated with luxurious bedding and academic level working spaces, yet eclectic furniture plans and nostalgic artwork and 3D accessories made each room feel like home.

IIDA was founded in 1994 as the result of a merger of the Institute of Business Designers (IBD); the International Society of Interior Designers (ISID); and the Council of Federal Interior Designers (CFID). The goal of the merger was to create an international association with a united mission that would represent Interior Designers worldwide. Since that date, IIDA has worked to convene communities of Interior Designers across regions and specialties representing the interests for the entire community.

Congratulations to our friends at Sim Patrick Studios on this great achievement! We wish you the best and look forward to working with you all in the future!
